2025 Intention

Reflection, Rest, and Reset: My Intention for 2025

Every year, I treasure the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s a time to take a long exhale after the big inhale leading up to Christmas. It’s a week to reflect on the past year, rest from its busyness, and reset for what’s ahead. There’s something inviting about new beginnings—whether it’s the start of a new day, a new month, or a new year. Each feels like a blank space full of possibilities.

In years past, I’ve loved setting goals and resolutions or crafting a “word of the year” as a focus. These practices energize me, and as an Enneagram 3, they come naturally, but this year, I’m leaning into something different. Because I can’t help but pursue new goals and dreams, in addition to asking, “What do I want to do next?” I’m asking, “Who do I want to become?”

I’ll always be a doer—it’s both a gift and a challenge—but I don’t want doing to come at the expense of becoming.

This shift has led me to set a guiding intention for 2025: cultivate courage and curiosity.

Why Courage and Curiosity?

To cultivate means to intentionally acquire or develop something. For me, it’s about nurturing qualities that help me grow. Courage is about stepping into discomfort, facing fears, and taking action despite uncertainty. It’s the strength to live authentically and boldly, even when it feels vulnerable.

Curiosity, on the other hand, is about maintaining a childlike wonder and a desire to explore the unknown. As a coach, curiosity is one of my superpowers. It allows me to ask meaningful questions, challenge assumptions, and hold space for new perspectives. Yet, in my own life, I’ve noticed a gap—a need to apply that same curiosity to myself. What might I learn if I approached my own experiences with openness and wonder? What opportunities have I overlooked because I wasn’t curious enough to notice them?

Putting It Into Practice

For 2025, cultivating courage and curiosity means I’ll:

  • Say yes to opportunities I feel called to that stretch me, even when they feel intimidating.

  • Say no to anything that drains my energy or holds me back.

  • Ask more questions, not just of others, but of myself.

  • Rest in the discomfort of growth, trusting it will lead to something meaningful.

I don’t expect this to be easy, but I know it will be worthwhile. Courage and curiosity go hand in hand—curiosity helps me explore, and courage helps me take the next step.

What About You?

As you reflect on the past year and dream about the next, what intentions or qualities do you want to cultivate in 2025? Is there a word, a theme, or a question guiding you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Share your intentions or reflections in the comments—I’m always curious (of course!) to learn how others are navigating their own journeys. Let’s inspire each other to step into the new year with purpose and possibility.
